Possible interpretations of X(3940)    [PDF]

Partial decay widths of the X(3940) are evaluated in the $^3P_0$ quark model with all model parameters predetermined. The work reveals that the interpretation of the X(3940) as a $2\,^1P_1$ $c\bar c$ meson is strongly favored by experimental data while the $2\,^3P_1$ state is not ruled out. The X(3940) is unlikely to be a $3\,^1S_0$ charmonium.
